Breeding Program Overview

Our breeding program is thoughtfully planned with the long-term health, temperament, and preservation of the Bohemian Shepherd as its central focus. Every breeding decision is made with careful consideration of genetic diversity, health testing, structure, and working ability, rather than convenience or volume.

Because responsible breeding prioritizes the wellbeing of the dogs, not every planned breeding results in a confirmed pregnancy. Timing, biology, and individual physiology all play a role, even when appropriate veterinary protocols are followed. For this reason, the information shared here reflects our current plans and best projections, while remaining flexible as circumstances evolve.

This page is intended to provide transparency into our program and to keep prospective families informed as our plans progress. Updates are made as information becomes available, always with the understanding that ethical breeding requires patience, stewardship, and respect for the natural process.

Current and Planned Breedings

Chilli was bred to Bandit earlier this year following veterinary-guided cycle management and appropriate timing.  Both dogs were selected for this pairing based on complementary pedigrees, health testing, and temperament, with the goal of preserving correct breed type and maintaining genetic diversity within a limited population.

At this time, pregnancy has not been definitively confirmed. Even when breedings are appropriately timed and managed, conception is not guaranteed in every cycle. If this breeding does not result in a litter, plans are in place to repeat the pairing during a future cycle when conditions are appropriate, with continued veterinary oversight.

Updates to this section will be made as additional information becomes available.

What Prospective Families Should Know

Our breeding program is intentionally small and preservation-focused. We do not breed on a schedule, nor do we produce multiple litters at once. Each breeding is planned around the health and readiness of the dogs, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed in any given cycle. As a result, timelines may shift, and patience is an essential part of working with a responsible breeder.

Because the Bohemian Shepherd is a rare breed, puppies are not available on demand. Prospective families are encouraged to approach this process with flexibility and a long-term mindset, rather than a fixed expectation of availability or timing. Planned breedings may be postponed or repeated if conditions are not ideal, always with the dogs’ wellbeing as the priority.

We place significant emphasis on temperament, lifestyle compatibility, and long-term placement. Expressing interest does not imply a reservation, and we do not match puppies strictly on a first-come basis. Our goal is to create thoughtful, stable matches that serve both the puppy and the family for the entirety of the dog’s life.

Prospective families should also understand that ethical breeding involves substantial investment in health testing, international bloodlines, veterinary oversight, and continued education. These factors contribute to both the rarity of the breed and the level of commitment required from future owners. We view puppy placement as the beginning of a relationship, not a transaction.

Puppy Placement and Application Process

Puppy placement within our program is handled thoughtfully and deliberately, with the goal of creating lifelong, successful matches. Because the Bohemian Shepherd is a rare and purpose-bred breed, placement decisions are based on suitability rather than speed or order of inquiry.

Prospective families who wish to be considered are invited to complete a puppy interest application that can be requested in the Contact Us portion of our website.  This application allows us to better understand each household’s experience, expectations, and lifestyle, and helps determine whether the breed and our program are an appropriate fit. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement, and applications may be held for future consideration if timing or circumstances are not aligned. After reviewing the applications, we will want to speak with you (in person is best, but we understand that is not always possible) and have you meet our dogs to discuss if we are both a good fit for eachother.

Puppies are evaluated individually as they develop, with attention to temperament, structure, and overall confidence. Final placement decisions are made by the breeder, in consultation with families, to ensure that each puppy is placed in an environment where it is most likely to thrive. We do not assign puppies based solely on preference for color, markings, or gender.

If a breeding results in a confirmed litter, selected families may be invited to move forward with the placement process at the appropriate time. Details regarding contracts, health guarantees, and take-home timelines are discussed only after a pregnancy is confirmed and puppy development can be responsibly assessed.

Our goal is not simply to place puppies, but to establish lasting relationships with families who share our commitment to responsible ownership and the long-term welfare of the breed.
